Sugar Maple Tree Seeds
Acer saccharum
Sugar Maple is Canada's national tree. It is also one of the most important hardwood trees of northeastern North America.
Growing best in deep, fertile, well-drained soils where moisture is plentiful, this beautiful tree reaches heights of 24 to 30 m (80-100 ft) and diameters of 60 to 90 cm (24-35 in). Sugar Maple is the primary source of Canadian maple syrup and maple sugar.
Sugar Maple is also an important tree for wildlife, providing beaver, moose and deer with winter browse, while grouse, birds and squirrels eat the seeds. In the fall, the yellow to brilliant orange and scarlet leaves are one of Canada's most beautiful forest scenes.
